Dr. Asaad Alsufyani was born and raised in the holy city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he earned his Medical Degree from Umm Al-Qura University College of Medicine in 2008.
Asaad’s interest in emergency medicine was shaped in medical school. As a medical student, he volunteered during Hajj season with the Red Crescent—the local EMS provider—and local emergency departments providing first aid to pilgrims and visitors.
In late 2010, Asaad was awarded a scholarship to the United States to continue his medical training and education. Asaad joined Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Fellowship in Disaster Medicine in 2013 as a research fellow. While there, he was fortunate to be part of the first disaster response team deployed to the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan where he provided medical care to many patients in the hardest-hit areas. Asaad has also co-authored a chapter entitled “Subway Derailment” in “Ciottone’s Disaster Medicine” (second edition). While his wife and his 4 year-old son are still in Boston, Dr. Alsufyani currently lives and works in Toledo, Ohio, where he is completing an emergency medicine residency at University of Toledo. He anticipates completing his training in June 2017.
